A salp uses one of the most efficient and effective propulsion systems in the entire animal kingdom. It moves through the water by contracting causing it to pump water through its gelatinous body. It is also a planktonic, barrel-shaped organism.

They use the two opening to bring water into their system and expel it through the opposite hole. Tunicates are filter feeders.

There are about 3.000 known species of Sea Squirts around the world and they are mostly in the warmer waters.
