These fish appear in many different varieties but one common thing in their bodies is their fins being webs of skin, supported by bony structures. These fin rays attach directly to the proximal or basal skeletal elements, the radials, which represent the link or connection between these fins and the internal skeleton. These are the most dominant class of vertebrates, making up about 99% of 33,000 fish species.
